Philodendron Micans
Velvet in motion.
The Philodendron micans is one of those plants that rewards a second look. Its heart-shaped leaves shift from deep bronze to rich olive green depending on the light - each one softly iridescent, each one velvety to the touch. As a trailing plant, it cascades with effortless elegance from shelves, hanging planters, or trained up a moss pole.
Beginner-friendly in care, collector-worthy in character.
Pot size: 12cm | Approx. height: 20cm
✦ Care Guide
- Light: Bright indirect light brings out the best colour. Tolerates lower light but growth will slow and the iridescence will fade.
- Water: Water when the top 2–3cm of soil is dry. Consistent but not excessive - this plant forgives the occasional missed watering.
- Humidity: Appreciates humidity above 50%. A bathroom or kitchen windowsill suits it well.
- Temperature: 18–27°C. Keep away from cold draughts and frost.
- Soil: Well-draining potting mix with added perlite. Good aeration keeps the roots happy.
- Feeding: Balanced liquid fertiliser at half strength every 2–4 weeks in spring and summer.
- Repotting: Every 1–2 years or when roots appear at the drainage holes.
Each plant is individual - leaf colouration number of stems and trailing length will vary naturally.
